This $5.8-million project included reconstruction of westbound I-40 through the removal of some rolling hill grades, realignment the westbound lanes and the westbound on- and off-ramps at Cosnino Road, the installation of new guardrails, pavement markings, signage and other related work. Improvements to eastbound I-40 were made possible through a value engineering agreement, which increased available funding through cost savings on other portions of the project. An aggressive schedule allowed the project to finish six weeks early. The overall success of the project was due in large part to the team’s commitment and willingness to communicate in a positive, honest and forthright manner, as outlined by the Team Partnership Charter and goals.
Because this particular stretch of I-40 is heavily used by regional commuters and residents of the adjacent Cosnino neighborhood, a robust public outreach program was implemented to keep the community informed of project activities and roadway restrictions. CSW received the maximum bonus for completing phase one of the project well ahead of schedule, which was viewed as the most critical phase due to its drastic impacts on the traveling public and nearby residents.
